Alonso not impressed after fantasy football assist for Willian given to ‘none’ – football news

Chelsea left-back Marcos Alonso has humorously called out the official Fantasy Premier League after they failed to credit him for his assist for Willian’s goal in his side’s 4-1 defeat of Cardiff.

The Blues overcame Sol Bamba’s early strike to run rampant in the final quarter of their clash at Stamford Bridge, with Eden Hazard netting a hat-trick to ensure Maurizio Sarri’s side kept their unbeaten start to the season intact.

Alonso however was not credited by the league’s fantasy football website for his cut-back delivery to Willian following a glancing deflection off a Cardiff defender.

The Spain international, clearly perturbed by the failure to attribute his efforts correctly, took to Twitter to offer his tongue-in-cheek rebuke to the official feed.

“1st time I got called none…” Alonso said, alongside three rolling-eyes emojis, as he retweeted the original post attributing no assists to Willian’s late strike.

The 28-year-old has registered one goal and two assists so far across the opening games of the season and sits second on the individual player ranking this season in the Fantasy Premier League with 46 points, one behind team-mate Hazard.

Having arrived at Stamford Bridge in 2016 from Fiorentina, he has since established himself as a key player for the Blues, scoring 15 goals between league and cup despite working primarily as a left-back.

Chelsea were made to work by newly-promoted Cardiff in their game, as Neil Warnock’s side pressed hard to take an early lead through Bamba’s flying kick.

But the mercurial Hazard’s quickfire double just before the break ensured momentum swung back towards the Blues before a late penalty allowed the Belgian to notch up his hat-trick and put to bed any chance of a comeback.

Willian’s effort added some further gloss later on, even if Alonso remains convinced that he should be rightfully given his due for his part in the action.

Willian ‘never wanted to leave Chelsea’ amid Man Utd, Real Madrid & Barcelona transfer talk – football news

Willian claims to have “never said that I want to leave Chelsea”, with the Brazilian having been heavily linked with Manchester United, Real Madrid and Barcelona.

The 30-year-old forward established himself as a key figure at Stamford Bridge during the 2017-18 campaign, with regular game time allowing him to find consistency in his game.

A personal best return of 13 goals was recorded as a result, along with eight assists across Premier League and Champions League competition.

That fine form sparked talk of a possible reunion with former Blues boss Jose Mourinho at Old Trafford, while La Liga heavyweights Real and Barca were also said to be keen as they scoured the market for attacking reinforcements.

No deal was done and Willian, who has now spent five years on the books at Chelsea, is delighted to have stayed put.

He told the club’s official website:  “A lot of people they say a lot of things in the press, but I never said that I want to leave Chelsea, never.

“Always I say that I want to stay at Chelsea as long as possible, and I am happy to stay here.”

Willian, who was snapped up for £30 million ($39m) from Shakhtar Donetsk in 2013, is fast closing in on 250 appearances for Chelsea.

He hopes there will be many more to come, with his current deal set to keep him in west London until at least 2020.

“When I arrived here my plan was to stay here as long as possible and now I am here five years I hope to stay five more!” Willian added.

“I know I have two years of contract left but I hope to stay more years in the Premier League.

“I am very happy to be here five years. I have won titles and played a lot of games with a lot of happy moments, and a few sad moments as well but that is part of football, but these five years have been very good for me and I am proud to be a Chelsea player.”

Willian has helped Maurizio Sarri’s side to make a faultless start to their 2018-19 campaign, with four successive victories secured heading into the first international break.

The Blues will return to action on Saturday with a home date against Cardiff.

Angry Chelsea boss Antonio Conte says Premier League title win justifies Willian treatment

Antonio Conte insists no-one should question his treatment of Willian after winning the title for Chelsea last season.

Willian has starred for Chelsea in recent weeks, scoring four goals in his last six appearances. That includes a stunning strike and performance against Barcelona in midweek.

The Brazil international was used more sparingly last term, starting just 15 of Chelsea’s 38 League games.

But Conte reacted angrily to suggestions that he hasn’t picked him enough since taking over at Stamford Bridge in 2016.

He said: “Do you think that I am stupid? When I put Willian on the bench? I have to try and make the best decision for the team, no? Maybe last season we won the title, or did I forget something?

“Now he is playing because he deserves to play. But not because there is some regret from the past. For what?

“If a player deserves to play, and shows me during the training session that he is on top of his form, and wants to work defensively, he plays. If not, stay on the bench, stay in the stands.

“But this is not only for one player, but for all my players. This is what a winning mentality is. Not if one player is happy or if he is not happy if he doesn’t play. It doesn’t matter.

“I have to make the best decision for the team. He is playing now and I am very happy with my choice. Willian deserved to start in the previous game and played well. I did a fantastic choice, and I want to take credit for that.”

Willian is in strong contention to play again on Sunday against Manchester United, who will have former Chelsea midfielder Nemanja Matic in their side.

Matic asked to leave Chelsea in the summer and the Blues surprisingly accepted a £40m bid from their Premier League rivals.

Chelsea signed Tiemoue Bakayoko from Monaco to replace him, but he has failed to make an impact so far.

When asked if he misses Matic being part of the side, Conte added: “About this player I can only talk really well because he played with us last season.

“I think he was one of the key players in winning the title. Now Matic, unfortunately, is playing for Manchester United. I wish for him the best. Not on Sunday, but in the future.”

On target: Willian celebrates his goal against Barca

Conte has intimated in the past that Chelsea were wrong to allow Matic to move to Old Trafford, saying ‘you will have to ask the club’ when questioned about it.

He was pressed again on the subject today and significantly refused to discuss the topic.

Conte replied: “In the past we have already managed this topic. I don’t want to come back and speak about the past because I think it’s not important, not interesting for us.”
