Yeovil Town midfielder Sessi D’Almeida scored the solitary goal that helped Benin defeat Algeria 1-0 in their Group D African Cup of Nations qualifying game at Stade de l’Amitie on Tuesday.
After succumbing to a 2-0 defeat against the Desert
D’Almeida, making his fourth appearance for Benin scored the all-important goal in the 16th minute of the encounter.
The victory has brightened the chances of Benin to clinch a place in Cameroon next year having failed to qualify for the last four editions of the tournament.
D’Almeida who joined English League side Yeovil Town in the summer will be hoping to replicate the form for his club when they welcome Tranmere Rovers to Huish Park Stadium on Saturday.
