Spalletti demands ‘a lot better’ from Nainggolan – football news

Inter coach Luciano Spalletti conceded that he is expecting more from Radja Nainggolan following his move from Roma.

Nainggolan joined Inter in June and was reunited with Spalletti, who previously coached him at Roma.

Inter are reported to have paid €23.5 million (£21m/$48m) plus Davide Santon and Nicolo Zaniolo for the 30-year-old, but he has featured in just one of their three Serie A outings so far.

He also scored in that appearance against Bologna, but Spalletti wants more from the Belgian away from the offensive side of the game

“Nainggolan is a strong player, as are all of his team-mates, otherwise they would not play here,” Spalletti told reporters ahead of Saturday’s clash with Parma.

“He’s more striking than just being about scoring goals. He’s that kind of player who gives those flashes like in Bologna.

“But then there are other statistics, the consistency he has in the game, and on these numbers he can do a lot better.

“At the end of the game, we look at the performance data. He can give us something more, can improve, but then he is one that can make the difference.”

Inter will be out to claim a second successive win when Parma visit, but they will once again be without talented striker Lautaro Martinez, who Spalletti suspects will also miss the Champions League opener at home to Tottenham on Tuesday.

The Argentina forward joined for a reported €23 million from Racing Club in pre-season, but injuries have disrupted his start to life in Serie A, with a haematoma in his calf – which prevented him playing for his country during the international break – causing him discomfort.

“His situation is improving,” Spalletti said. “He is healing, but we still have to evaluate him.

“For Tottenham we will have to see. Personally, I think it’s unlikely because they are problems that, if not healed completely, can lead to a long lay-off, but we are still calm.”

Juventus will help Ronaldo break Serie A duck – Matuidi – football news

Blaise Matuidi insisted Juventus will help Cristiano Ronaldo open his Serie A account after the superstar fired another blank for the Italian champions.

Ronaldo has experienced a barren start to life in Serie A following his blockbuster arrival from Real Madrid, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner scoreless in Juve’s 2-1 win at Parma on Saturday.

The Portugal captain, his 23 attempts at goal without scoring is the worst tally in Europe’s big-five leagues , with Nantes midfielder Valentin Rongier behind him in second with 15 shots.

The 33-year-old forward tallied eight shots against Parma without finding the back of the net but Matuidi – who scored the winner – believes Ronaldo will break his duck.

“He is a great player and will score eventually, as he’s very important for this team,” Matuidi told DAZN .

“He was unlucky this evening, but we will help him and he’s got plenty of time.

“He was a little annoyed at not being able to score, but it’ll come.”

Douglas Costa, who came off the bench for his 50th Juve appearance, added: “Cristiano is playing in a new league and understandably he wants to score but he also knows it’s the three points that matter most.”

Parma vs Juventus: TV channel, live stream, team news & preview – football news

Juventus will attempt to preserve their unbeaten start to the 2018-19 Serie A season when they take on Parma at Stadio Ennio Tardine on Saturday.

Massimiliano Allegri’s side have won their first two games of the season, coming from behind to see off Chievo 3-2 in their opener before beating Lazio 2-0 in Turin last week.

Parma, meanwhile, have put just one point on the board thus far, following up a 2-2 draw against Udinese with a 1-0 defeat to SPAL.

Match Preview

Blaise Matuidi Miralen Pjanic Juventus Serie A

Juventus have shot straight to the top of the Serie A table after just two games and the reigning champions will be confident in their ability to add another three points against Parma.

The Bianconeri pulled off the transfer of the year when they lured Ronaldo from Real Madrid, but the Portuguese has not made the immediate impact many would have expected, though he did supply an assist for Mario Mandzukic in the win over Lazio.

Allegri revealed that the 33-year-old was “angry” following his failure to win the UEFA Player of the Year award on Thursday, so Parma are firmly in the firing line as he looks to respond to his detractors.

“Cristiano is fine and he has trained well,” said the Juventus boss. “On Thursday, he was angry because he won the Champions League and scored 15 goals. This shows that he always wants to be the best.”

Regardless, Juve have looked impressive as a unit, with Leonardo Bonucci’s return strengthening the defence, while Miralem Pjanic appears to be thriving once more in midfield.
