‘A lack of respect!’ – Neymar urges Ligue 1 officials to take action after bottle throwing incident – football news

PSG winger Neymar has condemned the actions of Marseille supporters after their Ligue 1 clash at the weekend and called on competition chiefs to punish those responsible for the disturbance.

Second half goals from Kylian Mbappe and Julian Draxler ensured that the French champions secured a comfortable victory at the Orange Velodrome , but the result was marred by crowd violence.

As Neymar stepped up to take a corner for the visitors, he was pelted by bottles and coins from a large section of the home contingent behind him , one of which he presented to the referee as glass.

The 26-year-old suffered similar treatment during his trip to the Velodrome in October last year and he has called on the authorities to act, for the sake of player safety in general.

“To increase this record of victories we are subjected to projectiles being thrown on the corners?” Neymar told reporters.

“Yes, it is a lack of respect, not only with me but also with the players of the OM. It’s not correct.

“The authorities which govern in Ligue 1 must take a decision because it can not go on like that, every time we come here and throw stuff, including glass bottles.”

Neymar went on to express his joy at the final result, which saw the Parisians open up an eight-point lead at the top of the table.

“We are very happy with the result and the victory,” he added. “We know that it is not enough yet and we don’t want to stop here and we want to continue to win.”

Article continues below

Next up for Thomas Tuchel’s men is a home game against Lille at the Parc Des Princes on Friday, before a trip to Naples in the Champions League the week after and Neymar is hoping for a better result than the 2-2 draw in the reverse fixture .

“The draw against Naples?” the PSG attacker continued. “We were not at a better level and we have to make a result there.”

Neymar the transfer Real Madrid need to reignite El Clasico after Ronaldo exit – football news

When Real Madrid sold Cristiano Ronaldo to Juventus in the summer, they knew they were taking a gamble.

Heading off was a player who had led them to three-successive Champions League titles, won the latest of his five Ballons d’Or barely six months earlier and had scored at a rate of over a goal per game for his nine-year stay at Santiago Bernabeu, writing his name large into the history of the most storied club in world football.

As he sat watching Real Madrid slip to a 2-1 defeat against Levante, president Florentino Perez must have been mulling over the bet that backfired. During that game, Los Blancos missed an array of chances as they slipped to a third defeat in succession, and a fifth without a win.

Most damningly, though, Real clocked up 480 minutes without finding the net – the type of drought that Ronaldo alone scarcely suffered during his time in white, let alone the whole team. Indeed, only once in the club’s illustrious 116-year history has there been a longer scoreless run.

If ever there was evidence ahead of Saturday’s Clasico match up with Barcelona that Madrid needed an adequate Ronaldo replacement, this was it.

Of course, players of the Portuguese’s stature are not readily available, and it could even be argued, with some justification, that he was irreplaceable.

“We can’t be crying for someone who didn’t want to be here,” Isco said earlier in the week. But while he is right that Madrid must look to the future, he must also appreciate that a greater effort must be made to fill the Ronaldo vacuum.

Mariano Diaz, Sergio Ramos, Real Madrid

Incessant rumours suggest that Real Madrid see Neymar as the heir to Cristiano’s Bernabeu crown. Long coveted by Madrid – he had a spell training with the youth squad as young as 14 – the Paris Saint-Germain star could be tempted by a move back to Spain, where he could find a platform to fulfil his personal ambitions.

One of the driving forces behind his move to Paris was his burning desire to be recognised as the best player in the world, something he felt he could not achieve whilst in the shadow of Lionel Messi.

Perez, a long-time admirer of the 26-year-old, has always had a belief that the stage of the Spanish capital would offer the former Santos star the showcase required to attain that goal.

“Being at Madrid would make it easier for Neymar to win it,” he said, speaking to El Larguero back in 2017. “Madrid is a club that gives big players what they need.”

While Ronaldo might dispute that second claim, having departed in the summer due to feeling underappreciated, it would be churlish to dispute the overall message, particularly as Real find themselves in need of a Galactico figurehead.

It is a challenge that Neymar would surely embrace.

Expectations that would overwhelm most have been a part of his everyday life for the duration of his career.

When Brazil played host to the World Cup in 2014, he was ubiquitous around the football-loving nation, even after his tournament was ended by injury at the quarter-final stage, while he has drawn the media spotlight with PSG for the duration of his stay.

His statistics, meanwhile, make for impressive reading.

Eight goals in eight Ligue 1 outings this season, plus four assists, represent a strong return, and while there may be doubts over the strength of the French top flight, he previously enjoyed 22 and 24-goal seasons in La Liga with Barcelona during his previous four-year stint in Spain.

Neymar GFX

And Ganso, the godfather to Neymar’s son, who is currently playing in France with Amiens, believes the Madrid target has improved since moving to Ligue 1.

“He’s matured a lot, primarily,” he told L’Equipe . “Before, he’d primarily be a dribbler, trying to beat players with great skills. He was already scoring a lot, but tactically he didn’t always think what was to be done correctly.”

More than just his goals, though, Neymar encapsulates the glitz, glamour, flair and excitement that Real Madrid have come to represent throughout their history. His eye for the spectacular, his willingness to humiliate opponents with an incredible piece of individualism and his mass appeal all combine to make him a perfect addition.

But signing him, clearly, will be no mean feat. PSG will want to recoup the €222 million (£200m/$262m) outlay they lavished on the player little more than a year ago, while there is no release clause to trigger as such agreements are illegal in French contract law.

“I wish Real Madrid and Barcelona the best of luck in their attempt to bring Neymar away from here!” Marquinhos sarcastically told the media last week, responding to the latest round of claims that PSG’s ace is readying himself for a return to Spain.

Article continues below

“People know what our president is like, how he is with his people and how he loves our important players.”

Neymar himself, meanwhile, is under contract until 2022 and branded rumours of a return to Barcelona or a move to Real Madrid as “fake news” in a recent Instagram stories post.

Madrid, though, are a club that have made the impossible possible in the past. If they are to regain those glory days in the near future, they have to find a way of doing so again because this Galactico-less version of their first-team is also destined to become trophyless this season.

Neymar channels his inner superhero with Batman and Spider-Man tattoos – football news

Paris Saint-Germain forward Neymar is considered to be a superhero to many and has channelled that superstar standing with the latest additions to his tattoo collection.

The Brazil international has been back in the studio having two giant inkings of Batman and Spider-Man etched onto his body.

Neymar had the work done during a recent visit to Sao Paulo, with artist Thieres Paim doing the honours.

He posted the design on social media, stating: “As everyone knows, Neymar is a fan of the characters Spider-Man and Batman. Today I had the pleasure of tattooing them on his skin!”

While clearly a fan of the DC and Marvel stars, Neymar is now a comic book hero in his own right.

Back in September, the 26-year-old saw his likeness used in a new graphic novel called ‘Inked: Art Animates Life’.

That publication follows a character called Junior as he uses magical tattoos to save his sister from the clutches of a criminal cartel with ties to the supernatural.

Neymar played no role in the writing process, but is delighted to have been the inspiration.

He told Business Wire : “Like many kids, I had two dreams growing up, to be a professional footballer and a superhero. I’ve been blessed enough to play football at the highest level.

“Now I have the chance to bring new, modern, powerful storytelling through comics and graphic novels to fans around the world.”

Neymar is also the star of a new video game.

‘Match MVP Neymar Jr’ was also launched in September, giving fans around the world the opportunity to try and emulate the meteoric rise of their idol in simulation form.

Barcelona rubbish prospect of Neymar return – football news

Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu insists that the club have no plans to re-sign Neymar.

“Neymar? He left and there are no plans to bring him back,” he told Catalunya Radio.

“We don’t plan to sign anyone in January, unless the coaches ask for someone before then. It’s a smaller squad because we have B team players who can make the first team.”

How have Brazil changed since the World Cup? – football news

GOAL ANALYSIS – Raisa Simplicio & Rupert Fryer

Following World Cup 2018, Brazil coach Tite and his technical staff are leading a process of renewal in the Selecao. Their work has been broken down into three stages: the short, medium and long term.

The short term utilised the six Brasil Global Tour dates from September to November, the first big test of which arrived this week with the Superclasico against Argentina in Jeddah.

Neymar refused to lose Miranda takes the Superclasico
Posted by Brasil Global Tour on Wednesday, October 17, 2018

The 1-0 victory over their old rivals made it four straight victories, but it is the performances rather than the results of those matches that are most important to the coach.

Tite has taken the opportunity to introduce a number of new faces, handing out nine debuts since the World Cup (Neto, Felipe, Eder Militao, Andreas Pereira, Arthur, Lucas Paqueta, Richarlison, Everton and Pablo), while retaining the core of the World Cup squad. The intention is to find an ideal blend of youth and experience.

A FIXED CAPTAIN

Neymar Brasil Argentina 16 10 2018

The big news ahead of the Selecao’s first post-World Cup test was the appointment of a new captain. After two years of rotating the armband around the squad, Tite announced that Neymar was being anointed the responsibility on a permanent basis. Tite made a point of explaining his decision, insisting that his no.10 was the technical leader of the team who will guide them into World Cup 2022.

There were some reservations following intense criticism of Neymar’s temperament in Russia, but it is clear to see that the 26-year-old has learned from the experience and is growing. Some of the criticism appeared to miss the point; this was not a reward from Tite, but rather a tool to ensure the player remains entirely focused and accepts his responsibility on the pitch.

ARTHUR’S EMERGENCE

Arthur Brazil El Salvador Friendly 11092018

The most prominent of all the new arrivals is Barcelona midfielder Arthur. The former Gremio man charmed the coaching staff and started against Argentina, a match in which Tite played what he believes is his best team. The match served as a something of a ‘simulation’ for next year’s Copa America, a tournament Tite is under huge pressure to win.

If the tournament started today, Arthur would be in the first-team. Despite having just over a year of senior football under his belt, Arthur has shown the strength, athleticism, tactical nous and technical quality to set the rhythm in the Brazil midfield, seemingly relegating Manchester Untied’s Fred back to the bench.

STRONG CORE

Philippe Coutinho Neymar Brazil 2018 World Cup

While Brazil are going through a major renovation, the Selecao remains standing on a solid foundation of five key players. In goal, Alisson has been consistently excellent and is yet to let his country down, though Ederson is pushing him hard. Marquinhos is the one member of the back-four whose place is assured, while Casemiro at the base of the midfield remains possibly his side’s most important player in terms of the team’s overall functionality.

In midfield, Coutinho – whether wide right or in central midfield – is immovable and so too is Neymar. Arthur is on the verge of making it six, but elsewhere places are very much up for grabs. Both full-back positions are being keenly contested and as many as half of the positions in midfield and attack are yet to be claimed.

STRIKING COMPETITION

Richarlison Brasil Argentina Amistoso Superclássico das Américas 16102018

One of the biggest changes for Brazil post-World Cup has been in the centre-forward position. For two years, Gabriel Jesus was immovable from the no.9 position. However, after failing to score in Russia, Tite has had a rethink. Jesus was left out of the squad completely last month but returned last week and found the net against Saudi Arabia.

Roberto Firmino, for so long his understudy, is now pushing for a start. Moreover, Everton forward Richarlison has entered the race after starring against El Salvador last month with two goals. The Argentina match saw Firmino and Jesus start a Brazil match together for the very first time, but they seemed to lack an understanding and the attack certainly lacked cohesion overall. Tite, then, has plenty to ponder up front ahead of next month’s Brasil Global Tour.

NEW FORMATIONS

GFX 1a mudança Tite Arábia Saudita

This week, for the match against Argentina, Tite took the extremely rare decision not to confirm his starting XI on the eve of the game, explaining that he was yet to devise his tactical plan for the contest. The 4-1-4-1/4-3-3 that had been omnipresent since his appointment has changed following their disappointment in Russia.

Against Saudi Arabia, he used three different formations and against Argentina went out with two centre-forwards, though Jesus did play from the right. The theory was that Firmino would drop and the likes of Neymar and Jesus would exploit the space. However, in practice it proved problematic, and will undoubtedly require more work on the training ground.

Regardless, Tite and his staff are working hard on varying Brazil’s shape and finding a system that can get his best attackers onto the field while retaining the ‘balance’ he believes is so important.

Neymar 10, Jesus on the fast break and five lessons from Brazil’s win over Saudi Arabia – football news

GOAL ANALYSIS – Raisa Simplicio

Goals from Gabriel Jesus and Alex Sandro saw Brazil past hosts Saudi Arabia in Riyadh on Friday night. Coach Tite said he was happy with the result but was less pleased by aspects of his team’s performance.

Below, Brasil Global Tour look back at the major talking points from King Saud University.

NEW ROLE FOR NEYMAR

Neymar Al Mogahwi Saudi Arabia Brazil Friendly 12102018

The standout player on the night, Neymar changed the game by creating both Brazil goals. With a new-found tactical freedom, Neymar spent most of the match operating centrally as a traditional no.10, exactly how he has been playing with his club PSG in recent weeks.

WE BELONG TO…

Gabriel Jesus Al Owais Saudi Arabia Brazil Friendly 12102018

One of the most criticised players during the World Cup in Russia, Gabriel Jesus returned to the national team and immediately got back in the goals. Having been left out of the squad completely last month, his first-half strike upon his return to the side was a huge confidence boost.

The Manchester City striker’s poise and electrifying pace to break in behind the Saudi defence before slotting his neat finish past the goalkeeper was much more like the devastating form we saw from him during World Cup qualifying.

THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING RENATO

Renato-Augusto-Brazil

Considered the player who provided balance to this Brazil side like no other during World Cup qualifying, the minor injuries began adding up just before the big show and Renato Augusto was relegated to the bench in Russia.

Perhaps Tite’s most trusted man, the cerebral midfield schemer came back into the starting line-up this week and once again displayed his importance to this team, staking a strong claim to remain a part of the coach’s plans. In the first half, Renato found spaces in behind the opposition, while after the break he dropped deeper to help out defensively.

SEARCHING FOR ALTERNATIVES

GFX 3a mudança Tite Arábia Saudita

With a new four-year cycle having just kicked off, now is the time for experimenting. And Tite is looking at more than just personnel – on Friday he changed formations three times. Brazil entered the field in a 4-3-3 that alternated between the famous 4-1-4-1. In the second half, Lucas Moura’s arrival saw a switch to 4-2-3-1.

With 20 minutes remaining, Tite shuffled his pack again. This time, Arthur and Richarlison arrived as substitutes and the shape changed to a 4-3-1-2 with no central striker.

FULL-BACK ROLES STILL UP FOR GRABS

Fred Alex Sandro Al Bishi Saudi Arabia Brazil Friendly 12102018

Brazil’s regeneration process ahead of next year’s Copa America has left the full-back positions very much up for grabs. Dani Alves appears to have ended his long and successful international career and Marcelo was left out of last month’s squad completely as Tite searches for alternatives.

Fabinho and Alex Sandro were once again handed the chance to leave an impression but neither had a particularly successful evening. The full-back roles, then, are still to be won.

Neymar sounds out Pogba over potential PSG move – football news

Paris Saint-Germain superstar Neymar has sounded out Paul Pogba over a potential transfer to the Ligue 1 champions as the Frenchman’s poor relationship with Jose Mourinho continues to fuel speculation he could be on his way out of Old Trafford, GBP Sports can reveal.

Pogba publicly stated after his side’s Premier League opener against Leicester City back in August that he would be in trouble if he spoke up about his situation, hinting at a bad relationship with Mourinho, and things have gone from bad to worse ever since.

The 25-year-old refused to rule out a move away from United during the international break in September amid ongoing rumours that he has set his sights on a transfer to Barcelona and Mourinho then stripped the France international of the vice-captaincy after he seemingly criticised his tactics following the 1-1 draw with Wolves.

The former Juventus’ man’s struggles in Manchester have not gone unnoticed elsewhere and Neymar gave Pogba a call toward the end of September to see whether he’s happy with life at United and if he would be open to a move to PSG.

The pair have been friends for some time and Neymar also regularly spoke with Pogba when he was a Barcelona target back in 2016 in an attempt to convince him to come to Camp Nou.

Neymar himself was heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid during the summer transfer window, but eventually stayed put and his desire to see PSG further improve their squad suggests he is more committed to the project in Paris than initially thought.

The tricky attacker is now hoping to convince PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi that Pogba could help take the club to the next level as they chase Champions League glory, although it seems unlikely the Ligue 1 giants can afford to bring in the midfielder during the January transfer window.

The Paris side are still under investigation from UEFA following the big-money arrivals of Neymar and Kylian Mbappe, with doubts lingering over whether both moves were in line with Financial Fair Play regulations.

PSG sold the likes of Goncalo Guedes, Javier Pastore, Yuri Berchiche and Odsonne Edouard ahead of the 2018-19 campaign to balance the books somewhat, but they would need to offload a number of other players if they are to be able to make another big-money signing such as Pogba.

Paul Pogba Manchester United 21042018

Article continues below

United paid a record fee of €105 million (£89.3m) for the dynamic midfielder in 2016 and it seems unlikely they will allow Pogba to leave on the cheap, regardless of the recent uproar around him.

He has a contract at Old Trafford until June 2021, with United holding the right to take up a one-year option at the end of the deal.

A move to PSG in January thus very much seems impossible, but Neymar’s desire to team up with the flamboyant midfielder could prove an added incentive for Al-Khelaifi to make a move at the end of the season in an attempt to keep his star man happy, while at the same time strengthening the team with a player who ticks a lot of boxes both on and off the pitch.

Fantasy Football: Hat-trick heroes headline our Goal Champions League Team of the Week – football news

This was the week of forwards in the Champions League. Three players scored hat-tricks during the latest round of play, with each propelling his side to a much-needed win. Paulo Dybala stepped up when needed as Juventus had to play without Ronaldo, Edn Dzeko broke his six-match drought in front of goal helping Roma pick up their first win of the tournament, and Neymar helped PSG get back on track after their opening loss to Liverpool.

Below you can find the eight other players that put in big performances for their clubs and your Fantasy sides this week!

Goal-Fantasy-Football-registertowin

GK: Roman Bürki – Dortmund – 1 Game, 5 Saves, 1 Clean Sheet = 9 Points

DEF: Leonardo Bonucci – Juventus – 1 Game, 1 Assist, 1 Clean Sheet = 10 Points

Bonucci’s performance against Young Boys was impressive and earned him a second consecutive spot in our Champions League Team of the Week. He didn’t just luck into his assist either, as he completed a team-high 83 passes on the day. Given their tendency to keep clean sheets and Manchester United’s struggles in front goal, Bonucci is someone you can feel confident in playing every week.

DEF: Aleksandar Kolarov – Roma – 1 Game, 1 Assist, 1 Clean Sheet = 10 Points

DEF: Alex Telles – FC Porto – 1 Game, 1 Assist, 1 Clean Sheet = 10 Points

Alex Telles Porto

MID: Cengiz Under – Roma – 1 Game, 1 Goal, 2 Assists = 14 Points

Under was inches away from scoring the goal of the round but will have to just settle for his goal and two assists. The Turkish international isn’t known for his finishing, but the assists may well be here to stay as he leads the club in that category in both Serie A and the Champions League. It’s hard to imagine not owning at least one Roma player for the next round as they will get another opportunity to pile on the goals against Plzen.

MID: Marco Reus – Dortmund – 1 Game, 1 Goal, 1 Assist = 11 Points

MID: Erik Lamela – Tottenham – 1 Game, 1 Goal, 1 Assist = 11 Points

The Tottenham man is in remarkable form right now, having scored or assisted in every appearance he’s made for the club this season. Lamela is now tied as the third highest point earning midfielder in the Goal game and, assuming his injury isn’t too bad, he could have even more luck against Group B minnows PSV.

Erik Lamela Tottenham

MID: Philippe Coutinho – Barcelona – 1 Game, 1 Goal, 1 Assist = 11 Points

FOR: Neymar – PSG – 1 Game, 3 Goals = 17 Points

There’s been a lot of controversy and debate surrounding Neymar after the World Cup, but he certainly showed the goods on Wednesday. The Brazilian led all players in shots on target and touches in the box this round, as well as obviously bulging the net three times. We will see how PSG fare when they inevitably make it to the knockout stages but, for now, Neymar is a must own and a solid captain option every week.

Neymar feeling back to his best after double against Nice – football news

Paris Saint-Germain superstar Neymar said he feels “good and in form” after shining in Saturday’s 3-0 win over Nice.

Neymar excelled against Nice, scoring twice as Ligue 1 champions PSG recorded an eighth consecutive league victory to kick off the season.

The 26-year-old Brazil international also scored a penalty in Wednesday’s 4-1 rout of Reims.

Speaking afterwards, Neymar told reporters: “It was an important win. We won playing good football, everybody chipped in and we head back to Paris with all three points.

“I am very happy with my performance — I feel good and in form right now and I am very happy to have scored.”

Neymar curled in the opening goal in the 22nd minute at Allianz Riviera before Christopher Nkunku doubled the lead at the start of the second half.

The Brazilian added gloss to the scoreline in stoppage time to extend the club’s lead to nine points atop Ligue 1, though that lead could be cut to eight points should there be a winner in the clash between Lille and Marseille on Sunday.

PSG have been utterly dominant in French top flight so far this season with Saturday’s result the fourth time in eight outings the Parisians have won by three or more goals, with the front three of Neymar, Edinson Cavani and Kylian Mbappe, along with winger Angel Di Maria all at or near the top of the league’s scoring charts.

And while Neymar tends to draw the headlines, team-mate Thilo Kehrer was quick to point out that there were plenty of contributors in Thomas Tuchel’s side.

“I think it’s important that we are a team,” he said. “There also are some players who give the assist to Ney.

“Of course we are happy when our strikers score goals. Ney did it today. But it’s a real hard work from everyone during the game. We played well today, we helped him to score so it’s good for us.”

PSG will now turn their attention to the Champions League where Red Star Belgrade await on Wednesday.

The French side opened the group stage with a loss to Liverpool, while Red Star are coming off a 0-0 draw with Napoli.

‘It’s a gift for me’ – Tuchel praises Di Maria after PSG beat Nice – football news

Thomas Tuchel says it is “a gift” working with Angel Di Maria following Paris Saint-Germain’s 3-0 Ligue 1 victory over Nice.

Neymar’s brace and a goal from Christopher Nkunku were enough to secure an eighth successive top flight win for PSG, who are now nine points clear at the top.

Neymar and Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting also had goals disallowed for offside, but it was Di Maria – who also hit the woodwork – who drew praise from Tuchel.

“I like Di Maria a lot, he is so gifted,” Tuchel said of the Argentine, who was impressive as part of a three-man forward line alongside Neymar and Kylian Mbappe.

“I watched him play with Real Madrid and for me I could not believe I could train him at some point back then.

“Now he is my player, it’s a gift for me. It’s easy with him as he is every day one of the first to come to training.

“He has a lot of skills, he always plays for the team, it’s really a gift.”

Tuchel rested Edinson Cavani and Marco Verratti for the trip to Allianz Riviera, with half an eye on PSG’s Champions League encounter with Red Star Belgrade in midweek.

And the former Borussia Dortmund boss claimed it was important to keep his players fresh while ensuring his ideas got across.

“First of all, I appreciate the fact that my players trust me and my ideas,” he added.

“It was important, our third game in one week, Sunday, Wednesday and Saturday. So the structure was important, to play 3-5-2 today.

“Nice are brave when they have the ball. I did not want my team to run without the ball. That’s why we change to play in 3-5-2.

“[The] players were open to this idea. We trained once yesterday like that and it was top. They played bravely.”
