‘I didn’t think PSG goal would bring so much coverage’ – Nimes star Bobichon – football news

Antonin Bobichon has enjoyed a remarkable start to the season with newly-promoted Ligue 1 side Nimes.

A reserve for much of their successful promotion campaign, the midfielder has earned greater game time – and greater exposure – already this time around.

Much of that owes to his fantastic contribution in a 4-2 defeat against Paris Saint-Germain, in which his spectacular strike sparked a comeback that could have ended in an unlikely victory for Bernard Blaquart’s men.

Nimes trailed 2-0 when he took aim from the edge of the box and sent a perfect shot into the top corner of the net. Buoyed by that effort, the home side rallied, drew level and even hit the bar as the champions rocked.

Les Crocos were caught out twice on the break in the dying stages and left empty handed, yet Bobichon had discovered a new spotlight.

“We lost 4-2 and yet my goal had a lot of resonance,” he told GBP Sports . “I didn’t think it would bring me so much coverage.

“The pressure it has brought is not crazy either, I’m not someone who lets everything go to my head. I’ve responded to the requests from the media as they have come.”

Bobichon is delighted to have had the opportunity to feature more regularly this time around, with the 23-year-old having played only 205 minutes last season in the second flight.

“I only played two games as a starter, so the way I’ve started this season must have surprised a lot of people I think,” he said. “Personally, I didn’t expect it.

“The absence of others has allowed to me to take my chance. I managed to be decisive and I’m enjoying it.”

Bobichon’s speciality has proven to be set-pieces.

“I had a coach, Yannick Dumas, who loved this part of the game,” he explained. “We worked together, even if we didn’t have great facilities when I was younger. Now, we work one or two times a week with [club-mate] Teji Savanier on direct free kicks.”

A fortnight after scoring against PSG, those efforts paid off as he struck in a 3-3 draw against Bordeaux. And it is unlikely to be his last.
